About Jeff and The Why

I started my career, as most budding recent graduates, unemployed but with energy to burn. For the first few years of working at Engineering Animation, Inc. in Ames, IA, I became engrossed within the Visible Human Dataset for the National Library of Medicine. After working as a digital anatomist, qualifying anatomical landmarks on 1 mm male cadaveric slices (1/3 mm for the female dataset), it was time to utilize the critical thinking skills acquired working with Dr. Charles Fox, developing pharmaceutical method of action visualizations for intellectual property cases, patent disputes, or class action lawsuits. Those five years of scientific exploration and critical thinking became the basis of almost everything I would work on up to present day. Thank you, Chuck!

Next, I started Scientific Visualizations, Inc., with a keen eye towards medical device visualizations and anything that required water to exist (boats and mechanical technology). Thank you, Jamie Wade, for the countless cups of coffee while you provided endless business and legal ideations. Your guidance as my attorney for SVI, will be cherished forever. Your early departure was a punch to the gut for so many.

Moving to Chicago, having started Scientific Visualizations, Inc., I learned a great deal about failures, just ask my wife, Jennifer. Concurrently, I was teaching kids animation software at a private institution in Chicago. Change was in the air!

I sold Scientific Visualizations, Inc., to Halff Associates, Dallas, TX, starting a 15 year journey within the transportation, structural, and environmental engineering world. Needless to say, a single biologist in an engineering firm doesn’t always mix. I did learn an unimaginable amount of science, engineering and software throughout my years in Dallas, TX.

Accident reconstruction and fire damage demonstrative evidence was also energetically pursued. It was time to stretch a lot of brain cells and utilize what was learned from visualizing 100’s of miles of roadway in TX, NM, and LA, and improving demonstrative evidence rendering quality. With a team of incredible colleagues, we pushed the boundries of what would become expected from engineering visualizations.

What a time to be alive!

As our kids became older, Jennifer and I realized it was time to move back to the Midwest for some snow! The Minneapolis suburbs became our new home, welcomed by an incredible engineering firm, WSB. For six years, I continued to push the limits of what was expected from our engineering firm with visualizations that were engaging and impactful. My colleagues at WSB became family, and will forever be remembered in a postive light. I learned to succeed, while failing foward. Bringing realtime visualization capabilities to the engineering industry, with Michael Kahler and Noboru Ando being a huge keystone to the development. WIth an emphasis on Transportation, Right of Way, Structural Engineering, Demonstrative Evidence, Product Marketing, and Project Constructability.

From those 28 years of experience, it was time to make another leap.
The Christiansen Group, LLC was launched with a keen eye for improving visualization quality for mulitple industries, while being able to focus on my first joys – medical and litigious visualizations. With future conflicts being removed, I’ve been able to pick and choose who I work along side. The partnerships that have already been started are a testament to what TCG can and will continue to do. Watch this space, because visualization is only part of the equation to clarify our clients needs.

More to come!
